5 Tips to a More Engaging Website
Is your website engaging it’s visitors? A key to increasing website traffic is giving the user a reason to come back. Here are 5 tips to a more engaging website experience:
1) Integrate Social Media – Integrating a social media feed (ala Twitter, Facebook) on your website will give users a reason to come back and see what is going on, or what you have to say, and makes you more approachable.
2) Focus Your Message – Do you find yourself plugging in website content just for the sake of filling up the page? Big mistake. Rule of thumb: If you don’t quite know what to say, don’t say it.
3) Skip the Ads – Unless the purpose of your website is to collect revenue via ad space, skip putting them on your website. If you think visitors are clicking on that Google ad for Facebook advertising, they’re most likely not, and it’s not going to engage your visitors.
4) Provide a Means to Get Involved - People love to give their opinions and provide feedback when you ask for it. So, provide a method to do so via allowing comments on your blog, or an online poll.
5) Use Video to Send a Message – People would rather watch TV then read a book. Same applies for web content (been to YouTube lately?). Video adds uniqueness, character and a human element to your website. People visit your website because they want your help, or hear what you have to say. What better way to engage your visitors then to let them SEE what you have to say.

So there you have it… 5 tips to a more engaging website. Did I engage you enough to let me know what you think? What are some other ways to engage your website audience?

Do you have an example of social media integration?
Sure thing… in the simplest case I just added the Twitter feed to the right sidebar of this blog using the ‘Twitter Tools’ widget for WordPress. While it’s not very ‘engaging’ in it’s placement on this site, when positioned more prominently and creatively on a website, it can help add that ‘human element’ that most business websites lack.
Thanks for the feedback.
